The Varsity Football team (1-2) suffered bad breaks early in their game last Friday against defending state runner-up Pinewood Prep (4-0), and couldn’t overcome them, falling 45-7 on the road. Despite the loss, several Highlanders provided great individual performances. Junior Jaelen King collected a season-high in both receptions and tackles, Reagan Olsen led the defense with 9 tackles, and Brandon McCullough registered his third straight game with a touchdown.

Friday night, the team will host Laurence Manning at 6:30PM (moved up from the original time of 7:30 due to the possibility of inclement weather).

The JV Football team (0-1) fell to a tough Ben Lippen team in their season opener, 26-0. The Highlanders played a very strong defensive game, only allowing two touchdowns, led by strong performances by lineman Joe Pope, and safeties Hayden Wrenn and Justin Lange, while the offense was led by a great rushing performance from Darius Bates. They will travel to Hammond for a 6:30 kickoff on Thursday.

The MS Football team (0-1) played in a great game last Thursday, losing a heartbreaker to Ben Lippen, 8-6. The Highlanders got on the board first, as Alexander Roberts found Walker Draffin on a touchdown pass with less than 10 seconds to play in the first half. The Falcons would respond on the first drive of the second half, scoring the touchdown and ensuing two-point conversion to claim the lead. The play of the game, however, came in the fourth quarter, as a Highlander fumble gave Ben Lippen what looked to be a sure scoop-and-score. Center Ryan Shelley tracked back nearly 30 yards to not only make the tackle, but force another fumble, which was then recovered in the endzone by Hugh Willcox. The Highlanders will face Hammond on the road on Thursday at 5PM.

Junior Maryah Nasir finished in 4th place with a time of 19:04, and was the top finisher among all Midlands area girls!

The Boys Cross Country team will run on Wednesday at Orangeburg Prep.

Heathwood earned wins at #1 singles from Francis James, #2 Olivia Merritt, #3 Daisy McLeod, #4 Carter Smith, #5 Caroline Bunch, and #6 Kit Mullins.
